Project Title: Promises Kept - Watchdogging the construction of the Vale Park Link
Fall Grant Award: $3100
Project Summary:

Although the Friends of Silver Lake worked diligently to prevent Valparaiso government from building a roadway through a wooded wetland, the city has proceeded with its plans for the Vale Park Link. We believe that the city may not have earmarked enough funds to protect and maintain the wetlands, woodlands and adjacent lake from the hazards of road construction, and that they may cut corners to build the road in the most economical fashion. The project will hire experts-engineers, scientists, environmentalists-to monitor the environmental impact of the construction, and make certain that both the Army Corps of Engineers and IDEM requirements as well as promises made to the community are met to the full satisfaction of all parties.
