A Citizen-Driven Protection Strategy for Lake Superior Basin Public Lands/Watercourses
Spring Project Grant Award: $2500
Project Summary:

Lake Superior’s coastal waters and tributaries are in good condition because of large tracts of forested land that filter, store, and slowly release water. But there is a trend underway to sell public forest lands. This project seeks to prevent the loss of public lands and the resulting degradation of waterways by designing and executing a bottom-up strategy for the protection of public lands and watercourses. The strategic plan will elevate public lands protection through economic, political, public and legal approaches. Duluth Open Space and Urban Wilderness will form a project team of key leaders and interested parties, host public meetings, develop the plan, obtain and address feedback, and publicize and promote the final plan.
