JEAN KLOCK PARK: Commitment to preserving an endangered Great Lakes coastal resource.
Spring Project Grant Award: $2000
Spring TA Grant Award: $3500
Project Summary:

Despite a 2004 Consent Judgment intended to preserve Jean Klock Park, the Park’s dunes and wetlands are threatened with development of a private golf course. The Friends group contends that the City of Benton Harbor’s lease to the developer to build part of the golf course is illegal and that no further development is allowed in the dunes, wetlands or any other part of the park. Project funds will enable holding and encouraging increased attendance at weekly meetings to inform and empower the public of the benefits of preserving dwindling coastal resources; proposing alternative uses; soliciting memberships, volunteers, and donations. Technical Assistance Grant funds will support legal services to enforce the 2004 Consent Judgment.
