Project Title: Protect and preserve wetlands/floodplain in Saginaw Bay Watershed
Fall Grant Award: $3800
Project Summary:

Saginaw County Public Works and the U.S. Army Corps plan to construct an unconfined 281-acre Dredge Material Disposal Facility (DMDF) in a wetlands/flood- plain area of Bay and Saginaw Counties, next to the Saginaw River in Michigan. The area will be utilized as a receptacle for 3.1 million cubic yards of dredge material heavily contaminated with dioxins and other toxics. LTC opposes the plan because no Environmental Impact Statement has been conducted to fully disclose the impacts of the facility on wetlands/floodplain, wildlife, and quality of human environment. The group will utilize legal proceedings to ensure protection of the area.
