Increasing Access to Information Through Outreach Development
Fall 2007 Project Grant Award: $2,100
Project Summary:
The Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve has been working since 1995 to keep the Yellow Dog River and Michigan's water pure for the use of future generations. Much of the water in the Great Lakes Basin is polluted because of misuse and neglect, with over 360 chemical compounds found in Great Lakes water and 33 million people drinking it. Many people do not know the risks involved. Our project will increase access to information and encourage action to keep the water clean. We will do this through website development and information distribution. The grant will assist with developing these educational tools.

Freshwater Future builds effective community-based citizen action to protect and restore the water quality of the Great Lakes basin. We work toward this goal by providing financial assistance, communications and networking assistance and technical assistance to citizens and grassroots watershed groups throughout the Great Lakes basin. Through these efforts we work with over 1,800 grassroots watershed groups and citizens to protect and restore the rivers, lakes and wetlands in their communities. Freshwater Future, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
